Yearly update lol

I have no idea why I opened my blog, it has been forever since I have written on it. Nothing happens to me by chance there is always a reason for when something like this happens. Maybe I just need to update my life, maybe I have something to say that will inspire someone else, maybe I am just a little daft and there is no rhythm or reason other than I accidentally opened up my blog, but here I go. I made the decision to finally retire from my job on February 14th 2018. I picked that date because it is after I turn 66 and the end of a pay period at work, and I will be able to take a weeks vacation in January (I get 80 hours a year) not a big deal because 80 hours for working 11 years in a place is kind of lame I think. I mentioned this to the CEO and have given him fair warning. If he doesn't plan for it then it is not my fault and I am not going to worry about it. I hope I don't have to leave him in the lurch, but I have a feeling he will not replace me but pile on whatever I do to another employee, and she will not do it the same way I do it. Oh well. I just know this is the right thing for me to do. Will it be a good time to quit? Will we be financially strapped, I hope not. Bob is working hard at little things that require extra cash to be done before we don't have it. I think the biggest thing for me was, we purchased a large 31 foot trailer and plan on venturing out in it, whenever the mood or weather tells us we can. We haven't been able to do that since we moved and built our St. George home. Our lives really have changed over the past 15 years. Our family grew, grandchildren were added and now a great grand-son we haven't even seen 7 months ago. I am so afraid that I am missing the best time of my life (senior years) because I feel so obligated and strapped into a job that I am actually just tired of doing. The worst part....this is the easiest job I have ever had, I have an obligation every single Tuesday, where I NEVER miss being here on a Tuesday because I have to put together a slide show to present to 80 Realtors. I believe in the 11 years I have been here I may have missed 2 maybe 3 tours. With only 4 women working in an office and 1 CEO it is really sort of bad. You get to know too much about one another and there are times when I don't like certain things that are said or feel like I am dragged into a conversation where I have to take side. It can be exhausting, maybe that is why I look forward to just leaving it all behind. I am not even sure I would have a relationship with anyone here outside of this office. My husband had a stroke a few years back and that was so scary, just the thought of loosing him and not fulfilling all of our dreams of adventure together. Oh please, we have had lots of adventures together, just being married to this man has been full of adventure, but after 48 years together we need a different kind, a RELAXING kind of adventure where we can actually stop and smell the roses adventure, camp out in the forest together, snuggle in a cozy bed together and not feet apart, just get back to our roots of how much we actually enjoy each others company together and why we love each other so much. That is what we need, or maybe that is what I need. ?? anyway, I plan on doing it in February 2018. I want to write a book of love letters and my life experiences. It may never get published, or it may. I don't know but I plan on writing it. I have an entire shoe box of letters Bob wrote to me when he was in Viet Nam. Sweet love letters. They all say the same thing, how much he loves and misses me but they are so heart felt from a soldier not knowing if he will ever be able to tell me in person or come home alive. I have many experiences in life that need to be shared beyond my personal manuscripts about the love I have for my Savior and my testimony, how it changed my life for the better how I have shared and prayed and opened the hearts of others and wept with them and counseled them during difficult times in their lives. I guess I can say that I have lived a pretty good life and had tons of blessings showered on me even in my trials when I didn't think the Lord was listening. He was always there cheering me on. He was actually in my corner the entire time, just taking a back seat and waiting for me to make the first move. Bob's latest project is this gazebo or pavilion in our back yard. It will look just like this without the bar added. It will be awesome. The structure is done, now comes all the tedious finishing touches! I am glad I opened up my blog, I hope that I do not procrastinate and not do this more often. We will be celebrating 48 years of marriage on Aug. 2nd and 2 of my grand daughter plan on being baptized. That...is a long time coming and I will be celebrating in a very big way. God answers prayers. In His time he answers prayers. I have been patiently waiting for the day when hearts would be softened and just the right person would enter my grand daughters lives to teach them the gospel. Life is good.

Hello my awesome friends! I am having a time figuring out how to put something on here that I also put on FB. It is so easy for me to video a short clip then post it there but how it that done on here without a HTTP/ thingy? How do I link my FB stuff to blog? Anyway I had a funny experience yesterday at Arby's. I wanted to get a GYRO sandwich because of the commercial on tv (I love the voice of the announcer he makes me smile) and I was short .05 cents. Yep I had it in my car, but do you think anyone behind me would give me a nickle? NOPE so I left my money on the counter, and ran to my car park outside the door, grabed a quarter and went back inside had to wait in line again behind 3 people then got up to the register and handed the same young man my quarter. He look at me and said "what you you like today?" I said "I would like my GYRO and here it the nickel I owe you." HE said "Well it comes to $4.28." I said I know I already gave you $4.23 here is a quarter so you owe me money." He looked at me and said "where is the rest of the money?" SERIOUSLY???????? then I started to laugh and told him I already gave him my money please give me my GYRO and my change....if was comical....it must have registered.....because he had put MY MONEY in his register...lol I got my GYRO an it was yummy. STILL laughing about it. I just might go back and get another one today LOL.

ARE YOU IRISH?

My husbands ancestors came to America many many many years ago and through those years the "O" was dropped from the name Higgins. So in long-time reality I should be married to a O'Higgins. Why they did that, I have no idea. I think that it is a beautiful name, just like my husbands name Robert Oscar, just think to be given that name and not have the "O" in Higgins!!!!!! It is a shame and so for today I am going by O'Higgins. Linda O"Higgins. That sounds pretty Irish don't you think? Be proud of your name...carry it and think of all the trials that came with your name, the hardships, happiness, wouldn't it be fun to go back in time even for a day and see your ancestors who carried YOUR name! I think it would and I will be so happy to see my ancestors who are Schippers and now my inherited ancestors who are Higgins and O'Higgins! My father-in-law was really an Irish looking man, tall, blonde curly hair (like my husband) defined features in his face and he was a proud man, a very proud man. Quiet but Stubborn too. Hmmm just like my husband. Being born in Holland, I am sure that I have some direct descendants that could have come from Ireland at some point in my history. I feel very justified wearing green today and saying I have a little Irish in me....even if it is just a little. :) Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! Linda O'Higgins :)

A short sweet story, many years ago my oldest granddaughter Madison was about 5 and in school they were learning about St. Patricks Day, the teacher told the children that Leprechauns were a myth, they didn't exist, it was just something that was made up, well Madi told her teacher that her Papa was a Leprechaun and that once a year at midnight he turned into his real self as a Leprechaun to find his pot of gold and keep it hidden in a safe place. He has from midnight until the sunrise to do so, if he isn't successful he looses his magic of becoming a Leprechaun every year. Well the teacher said "your Papa is not telling you the truth", which upset my granddaughter. She went home from school crying, my daughter called and told us how upset she was and that Papa needed to finally put a stop to the nonsense and tell her the truth about his midnight escapades, so Papa got on the phone with our granddaughter and with a big sigh, said to her "Madi girl, no matter what your mother tells you or what your teacher tells you there is one person that you can always believe in and that is your Papa, and I am here to tell you Madi, that I AM A LEPRECHAUN, and I do have magic that I can use once a year. Unfortunately that is all I can tell you. It is a family secret that you must keep as a secret and not tell anyone. But always believe in me and in magic and you will always be alright in the world." So with that said, my daughter was not happy but could do nothing. I laughed and laughed at her frustration, (we get to do that as parents) so with that said....our grandchildren will always believe that their Papa has magic and even though we can't see it we can believe in it. I love that man!

Have you ever just had a day, or should say a couple of days in a row where nothing goes as planned? From the time you get up out of bed and set your foot in the office, everything just goes different. Not wrong, but different? Well I am having those days, from feeling like dumber than a door nail to just wanting to walk out on everything and call it quits. Which would be entirely wrong to do because there are bills to pay. I use to think that life was so sweet and looking forward to the weekend was just...umm I can't explain it, I just looked forward to the weekends! Today I don't look forward to anything! YIKES! I am in a puddle getting splashed on feeling just dripping with muck and I just need a hand. Yeah one of those hands that are held out to you and pull you back up and a pat on the back saying, "every little things gonna be alright". It is a moment in time, I know, it too shall pass and I will have forgotten all the slop and muck I am feeling right now. I am wearing an adorable little shirt dress today with leggings and I felt so....pretty this morning. I have had nothing but stares all day long. Not one word of "wow cute dress Linda," so I am wondering if I really pulled it off! I am thinking I look silly and ridiculous in my new little outfit! Never felt this uncomfortable before. I am just going to hide away in my office today, run home tonight and put my pj's on and just chalk it up. Ya know, some days it rains and you just can't stop it.....tomorrow the sun will shine and I will be ok again.

Today is crazy hair day at school for my sweet pea Lauren Higgins! She is naturally a blonde but seeing her with dark hair makes my heart go pitter patter because no matter what anyone says, she looks more and more like her OMA (me) than ever! I love my sweet pea Lauren. Hope she is having a fun day at school!

WARNING! be careful, be very very careful. You don't know what kind of a day someone else is having. As I was leaving the Bloomington Wal-Mart parking lot a man pulled out of the stall as I was going up the isle, I tooted my horn to make him aware I was driving through and to STOP him from hitting my car, I swerved around him and then the verbal obscenities began, I don't think I have ever heard such horrible language my ears were ringing I just drove on and he pulled up behind me inches from my bumper...I pulled away and could still hear him screaming at me, SCREAMING, he was out of control and insane, the third try to pull away only brought him inches again from my bumper, I was shaking! he was too close for me to get a good look at his license plate or a look at his face through my rear view mirror, so I grabbed my phone and shouted through my 6 inches of opened window shaking my phone that I was calling the police and he better back off! Still SCREAMING at me he decided to race through the parking lot and down another street so that I could not get his license. I didn't want to follow, that would have been a really stupid thing to do. I think he was having a very bad day! I was still shaking when I got back to my office, but I have having a really good day knowing I was not accosted or shot in the WalMart parking lot! Today is a good day for being alive....Thank You LORD! I just hope he doesn't go home and take it out on an innocent.

I am so embarressed! Another year and thank goodness I am still here but haven't updated or posted anything. I am still sitting at the same desk doing the same thing! Waiting for the time to pass so that I can officially retire I guess. Not sure what I will do with myself once I do, hopefully pursue my dreams of writing and publishing a book of love letters and finally doing some pencil sketching. I have it in me just waiting for me to let it blossom. Face Book has taken over my blogging world but you just can't put your hearts thoughts into FB as you can blogging. I still don't have a clue how to make different page headings at the top, only can figure out how to post. I should be smarter, after all I have been working for 45 years, and blogging for I think 7. Not sure how to look up my first blog either. LOL and you are thinking, why is she telling me this, well I am actually scolding myself for not keeping up the piece of my world. Something that someday my kids might stumble across. In the last year, I turned a year older haha and so did everyone else in my life. I am blessed with 9 healthy grand children and a saint of a husband who loves me to pieces! I don't think life could get much better except I am still sitting at this desk....(sigh) I could brag about my amazing grand kids and all that they have achieved but that would be another 10 pages, just believe me when I say they fill up my life when I am around them. Life has been "even" that is about how I can call it, nothing exciting, just even, but I will take that over uneven any day! Hope to be here more often. I am back....

Well the year 2015 started out very quietly. We didn't even watch the Taylor Swift hoop-la in NY or anything! Bob bought a bottle of fizzy to toast in the new year and we didn't even crack it open! WE ARE SO boring! My house was decorated beautifully again. I just love Christmas and all the sparkly stuff! I took a few pictures of it on my i-pad but I will be darned that I know how to get it from one device to my computer! lol I have been gone way to long and out of the loop (so to say) as it comes to this stuff. WE also got new computers at the office (where I do all of my blogging when I am not busy doing work stuff lol) and I am not sure I know how to add my pics and writing like I did before when I used a program called windows writer. So I will give it a shot...if it turns out dumb..forgive me haha I will get it right. Kids are great...grand kids all 9 of them are great, beautiful and healthy (thank the Lord)I will have to give a break-down of all of them and post pics of them all ages and stuff. Owen who is our grandchild # 5 I think...:) is into that karate stuff and for a kid he is like a little brown belt of something, pretty awesome. I have only seen video of him. But he has a 6 pack! YES this little guy who is 8 has a 6 pack lol. According to my son he is awesome. of course! We had a summer of flowers in the yard (sun flowers my favorite, roses, Blue Angels flying over head which we could view from our back yard, Bob redid the back yard and added a wonderful new patio...not sure how to download those pics, but I think this is a pretty good beginning lol. My son Brad...has had some medical problems, was hospitalized in December with pulmonary embolisms on both his lungs. They counted over 50. Not good. He is only 35 and on oxygen. Send up some prayers for him and his family please. He is more annoyed with having to wheel around an oxygen tank more than anything, but without it...he cannot breath. Our youngest little one is such a dollie...she is going to be 2 in April and she keeps us on our toes. Keeps her daddy on his too even with his oxygen tank! I just know 2015 is going to be a good year for us all. I am working on a short story, and hope that I can find someone to publish it. I love writing. It is a passion that I have always had, just never really uncovered it. My children are encouraging me to get this story published because it is a true story of the love of my life and our journey. That's kind of a little clue here :) Well here are a few pics, I hope...and I will be back! Love Lindalu

GONE TO LONG

It has been such a long long time since I have updated and posted on my blog, there is so much to write about and so many wonderful pictures that my story book is overflowing! Since beginning my blog in 2007 I have had the privilege of meeting amazing people that have touched my life in so many ways they will never understand. Pictures and a year of updates to come very soon! Hopefully when I get back to the office on Monday and my day has slowed down I can do some catching up. Already end of January?

Where has the time gone?  I know why I don’t blog.  I did a whole new post and added 5 new pictures and BAM! it never downloaded!  Probably because I didn’t use windows live writer.  Hopefully this will download this time!  NOT USING blogger post load!  Do you love my header picture?  I took this photo this week with my nifty new lens.  It zooms in on stuff far away.  Cool huh!  Oh the sky was just beautiful.  The air was crisp it was 44 degrees and where else can you see such amazing colors all at one time?  The Southern Utah RED CLIFFS and Pine Valley mountains in the background ahhhhh so pretty.  See the little word DIXIE on the

Serenity

Yesterday I took a walk over at the park.  I decided it would be better to walk during lunch than it would be to go and eat something unhealthy.  Not that I am much of a health nut because I am not.  But I am always up for a little serenity in my life.  The park does it to me.  A place called “The Garden” is always kept so pristine.

I found a beautifully carved metal box at the entrance of the park which held information about the park and the different vegetation.

 

 

 

 

Then I found serenity

and I stopped to reflect on what I have to be thankful for

Only a few hundred feet from the park along the walkway it opened up into the local cemetery.  The colors were even more vibrant.  I walked along the path and saw many names that meant nothing to me but had a lot of meaning for someone else.  It took my breath away and I knew that in a few more weeks this same place will be adorned with colors of Christmas.  I will want to come back.

As I was leaving the sun broke through the clouds for just an instant and I took a deep breath.

The day was unusually warm.  The sky was dark and very cloudy and on my way home I  was chasing the storm. 

As soon as I walked in the door, the love of my life greeted me with a big hug and smile and asked how my day had gone.  It just can’t get any better than that.  No matter what storm I was chasing…or what my day had been like, I knew I had come home to serenity.

My strong sweetheart is healing.  Not as quickly as he would like, but he is healing.

I am grateful for his calm serenity.  All the storms he has faced and trials he has gone through; he is such an inspiration to me.  He is a man of honor, integrity and courage.

It has been brought to my attention…that I have been neglecting my blog.  Not only have a few friends noticed but one of my 3 children mentioned it to me.  Yes, I haven’t been blogging.  I don’t have a very good reason, just that I haven’t been.  Summer came and went, then came back again.  Yes the weather in my part of the country is warm VERY WARM.  I was all ready to pull out what few items of winter clothing I had and had to put them back up on the shelf!  I took some amazing photos of my Northern grandies in August.  I will share a few of those photos and also a few fun facts about Thanksgiving….which I didn’t know!  These little turkeys will be visiting for Thanksgiving this year.  We will have a  house full…I like it that way….

Has it been that long?

Yes it has! And I am totally ashamed.  Not that I haven’t had anything happen lately because you know that MY life is full of surprises.  ALL the time! Well February flew by, and so did March, and come to think of it, I really don’t remember too much of anything, so that is a good thing right?  That means my life is just running along smoothly and I am coasting, sailing, you know all that stuff that sounds absolutely heavenly.  But the fact is, April came along and hubby had another birthday, we stopped “celebrating” a long time ago, you know the quiet dinner out and then maybe a movie.  Traveled to see little Lauren in her dance recital…ok you are just dying to see my precious Lauren aren’t you?

 

 

 

 

 

 

Owen is such a ham he loves to have his picture taken.  And yes costumes are soooo expensive.  I felt sorry for the parents.  It is kind of ridiculous because they are worn only a couple of times for recital.  This is Lauren’s 3rd year dancing.  That is half her life since she will turn 6 in Sept!

Me my camera and grandkids = lots and lots of pictures especially when they are willing and wanting to pose.  Sorry…but this kid is so precious…he will pose and pose for me….

Lauren has to be in the  mood, and Ryan, well let’s just say Ryan is always so busy on the computer, I can’t get him to turn around and say cheese!  And looking through all the pictures I took I could only find this one of Ry on the carousel when they came to visit….Ryan where are you!  He is getting so big and OLD now ya know 9 year olds are just to busy doing ‘other stuff”.

Remember the sun, moon eclipse thing a few weeks ago, well I put my camera lens behind a special glass Bob had and got a couple of shots but they are not all that prize worthy, but looking through the glass with your naked eye was amazing!

Check this out….I just pointed my camera at the sun and pushed the button.  This is what I got.  It looks like an explosion behind my neighbors house!  Pretty cool huh?

Oh yeah, I was being all healthy and stuff and was riding my bike every day during my lunch hour (with a friend) and we decided to do this one route which would have been about an 8 mile trip.  Coming off of the bike trail into a city park I was ready to get off my bike and get a drink of water from the fountain and there was a hose, yeah I saw it and pretty much didn’t think anything of it, this probably wouldn’t happen to anyone else except me and hasn’t happened since, but my front tire just grazed the hose just right and flipped me off of my bike, I flew off to the side, of course trying to brace myself so I wouldn’t SMACK my face on the pavement, thus catching myself with my hands, knees and ribs!  YEP cracked a rib, (very sore) and fractured my left wrist!, then did a turtle ninja roll onto the lawn and the sprinklers came on.

YES all very comical, and in slow motion is VERY comical.  Just close your eyes and picture it ok.  Some jerks (city workers) were sitting on the park bench and said (clearing my throat) (put your mouth to the side) “Hey lady…..you ok?”

My friend was beside her self, and just starred at me….and asked if she could help me up.  NO…hell no…..I can get up myself…..in a minute….I just want to sit on the lawn and get soaking wet by these sprinklers cause I can’t move.

Then we got back on our bikes and went to Jack-in-the-box and had lunch.  Then rode another 2.5 miles back to work.

All in a days work my friends…………..I am WOMAN.   stupid woman but woman.  The next day after a very fitful nights sleep I decided I better get it checked out….YUUUUUUP! thus….

PURPLE CAST BABY! 6 weeks!  I was told it will start to smell and be all dirty and grimmy and my skin will flake, which it has already started to do, I am so lucky! First the splint then the cast…

 

 

 

 

 

 

I mean look at my hair…It is impossible for me to do it…I have to be so creative in the morning and you know….showering going through boxes and boxes of that awesome press and seal stuff.  Who wouldn’t want to be me right now?

My bike is retired for now.  Just leaned up against the wall in the training room here at work.  The weather has been really hot the last week.  When I get back from NC the cast will come off and I will be on my bike again trying to sweat off some of the extra pounds I will put on while visiting my girls cause you can’t go on vacation and not eat EVERYTHING that is horrible for you like home made caramel popcorn and maybe some fudge, and well you know….comfort food.

So my dear friends, if you don’t hear from me for a couple of weeks you know I am out and about have a blast…because that is what I do best!  I promise I won’t try to ignore you all so long.  I will have a lot of pics to post when I return…I will be reading your posts and hopefully keeping in touch with you that way.  Summer is so full of happenings…isn’t it!  Gotta love life to the fullest!

I am sure you all can’t wait for that part!
