Mary’s Lullaby

(2004) I woke up in the middle of the night. A melody kept going over and over in my head. I am not musical. I don’t play an instrument, I can’t read music, but a melody kept playing in my head. I tried to ignore it. I tried to sleep, but it wouldn’t stop. I remember looking at my clock illuminating in the dark, it was after 3 am. I closed my eyes and tried to stop the music. Then lyrics came to my mind. Over and over again, lyrics kept coming to my mind. It wouldn’t stop. OK, ENOUGH I said. I will get up and go to my computer. Ever so quietly, not to wake my Huhoney I crept into the office, and opened up a new screen. I was so tired and I didn’t think to grab my glasses. It didn’t matter, the words were coming so quickly now that I couldn’t stop typing. The music kept on and on and on. The words just spilled from me. I closed my eyes while I was typing because the screen was so bright. That’s ok, I can type very quickly and I don’t need to see what I am typing. I was done. I sighed a huge sigh. I will look at it in the morning I thought to myself. I left my desk and went to my bed, it was after 4 am. I laid my head on my pillow and slept a dreamless sleep. When I awoke in the morning I jumped out of bed and RAN to my computer….to see what I had written. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, I began to cry. What had I done? I was typing to frantically last night my fingers were one key over to the left. Yes, every word was a total scramble. There was nothing to my words smf o vpi;frmy frvogrt smuyjomh. This is what every line looked like. Huhoney came to me and asked what had happened and I told him of my night. “Don’t worry” he said, “you will remember, I know you will remember, the spirit will let you remember”. He hugged me. I was so sad. I couldn’t stop thinking, I didn’t want to do anything until I had remembered. Then I prayed. Yep, I prayed. I am not a renowned poet or anything but this was special, the melody was special and I knew I needed to write it down. Even if it is just for myself and my children. Late in the same evening after the day’s events, it all came back to me. This is what I wrote. I wish I could sing you the melody, it is so pretty. But I can’t. I don’t know how to sing! lol

Sleep; sleep my angel, our Prince of Peace,

The son of God, please don’t you cry;

Sleep; sleep my baby sang Mary’s lullaby

A cloudless night, the stars shone bright

A warm wind blew throughout the manger

The beautiful voice of a mother’s song

The son of God born in a stable

A cry rang out so soft and gentle

A mother’s kiss and this babe lay still

As she cradled the infant Christ child

She so sweetly sang this verse

Sleep; sleep my angel, our Prince of Peace,

The son of God, please don’t you cry;

Sleep; sleep my baby, begotten son,

The chosen one, to reign on high

The night was endless dark but bright

As stars glistened through out the night

And one alone shone over head

To lead the way to a manger bed

Mary held her infant son

As tears of joy washed her face so pure

And Joseph smiled as he watched them both

So sweet a sound her voice was heard

Sleep; sleep my angel, our Prince of Peace,

The son of God, please don’t you cry;

Sleep, sleep my baby, sang Mary’s lullaby

All those who came and knelt in awe,

Knew that they saw the son of God;

And though the heavens praised his birth,

Just one voice whispered in the night

So gentle a sound, so soft, so light

Her lullaby touched all who heard

God’s promise had come to earth

Sleep; sleep my angel, our Prince of Peace,

The son of God, please don’t you cry;

Sleep; sleep my baby, King of Kings

Our Lord and Savoir, the chosen one.

A lot of HO HO HO!

REMEMBER THIS AT CHRISTMAS TIME

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December.

rudolf

Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring.

Therefore, according to EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer, EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl.

We should've known…...

ONLY women would be able to drag a fat man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost. santa

On another note……we made and I can honestly say WE….

made a lot of candy and gift baskets to take to neighbors and friends on Saturday…it was so much fun…and so much work!

Huhoney was very careful and did suchcandy 001 a great job making pretzel clusters.  He actually makes them better than me! I am such a slob when I cook!

candy 010 He laid them out ever so carefully and sprinkled just the right amount of red and green on them!

I made lots and lots of cashew peanut brittle, roasted peanut brittle, and yummy delicious (a whole 1 lb. of butter) for one batch of English Toffee…oh so good! You can’t just eat ONE PIECE!

candy 019 candy 018 Huhoney even put the treats in little cute Christmas bags then filled the baskets with oranges and apples.

Hats, hats, and more hats….

I haven’t felt very productive this Christmas.  I don’t know why because after laying these cutie pie hats out on a table, I have been productive, just not in the traditional sort of way and making all the candy I usually do.  Maybe this weekend.  My sisters daughter about a month or so ago mentioned she was going to crochet hats…well that gave me an idea and pretty soon one hat became A LOT OF HATS, three of which not shown already sold. ($7) YES I am crazy……after checking Target and Wal-Mart I am crazy, and these are sooo much more adorable!hats 002 now I can’t stop!  When I am sitting at night on the couch watching a little tv and relaxing, I have to be crocheting or I feel like I am wasting precious time doing nothing!  So this is what has been happening…I can usually do a hat a night.  Each one is a little different and although most of them are already spoken for, I am going to have to start making duplicates because I LOVE THEM ALL and don’t want to give them up! LOL CRAZY HUH!  so…if ever you are in need of a hat, just ask the HAT CRAZY LADY!  I think I will continue making them until I am completely SICK of doing so and maybe by next year…I will have like a HUNDRED of them.  Maybe I will make a little extra Christmas stash cash!

I love this white one, because the yarn is so soft and sparkly!

then there is the brown and peach another favorite and the white and purple and black and red and brown and pink!

The black and red is also a favorite but the last one I make for my teenage granddaughter the 2nd on of the last bunch is so cute! It looks red but it is a dark cranberry color. ummm so cute!

YES I have been busy I guess, now for the CANDY! another favorite thing to do!  I will have to blast the house with Christmas music on Saturday and get BUSY!

Done

The halls are decked the tree is up, Huhoney went way out of his way this year to bring back the sparkle that has been missing in the Higgins (Griswald's) house for the past 2 years. I use to call him “my Sparky” when we lived in the country. You could see our house from miles away because the sky would be lit up hehehe. He told me the other day that we actually had 7 THOUSAND lights on our house at one time folks. There may not be 7 thousand lights on this house, but there is always next year! YEP, “Sparky” knows how to light up my life! I have a feeling he misses it too, so Huhoney brought back the lights.dec 09 087 dec 09 028

I love my tree this year! We gave away our little 6 foot tree and replaced it with a 9 foot tree, then I HAD to go out and get MORE ornaments and filler and “stuff”! The tree was soooo….empty!

But it looks beautiful now, thanks to good ole “Michaels” and “Ti-Pan Trading”.

Huhoney went a hunting one day and found some OLD barn wood and built me a wonderful OLD looking manger to set my nativity in. I put little tiny lights in it and tiny bales of hay and now it looks, more like a nativity….dec 09 060 I just wish my camera could capture how pretty it really is, but each shot came out blurry. (sigh) I love the nativity I got several years ago from a book store, I have never had a nativity before, only as a child and it was a cut out paper nativity….

dec 09 066 See the wooden shepherd carrying the lamb, Camille brought me this back from Jerusalem when she studied there. I can’t wait to share my poem that I wrote. There is a great story behind the writing of it too.dec 09 067

I count my blessing EVERY DAY. I just LOVE this time of year.

The snow globes are on display, many Santa’s that I have collected over the years as well as my mother-in-laws Christmas village.

Snow men are my favorite! Well actually everything Christmas is my favorite! Nutcrackers, moose, and….

This silly ole gal who brings a smile on my face each year when I bring her out….dec 09 041

I have replaced the southwestern plates on the wall with Christmas plates and even set the table with the Christmas dishes that Camille (my daughter-in-law) gave me several years ago. Yes, my home is back to the home that brings smiles on visitors faces when they come a calling.

dec 09 053 dec 09 051

dec 09 027 dec 09 023

see how blurry my camera is at night, no matter what setting I put it on it will not take clear pics. Ya think it is the photographer? NAH! Even the cactus got a few lights. It will be interesting to see Huhoney take those lights off the cactus LOL.

dec 09 070 I found these beautiful crystal candle holders at Michael’s for 50% off. I think next week they will be putting up Valentines stuff, they are moving around all the Christmas things now…sad huh….but I will be there the day after to pick up pretty sparkly things for next year! To me it is better than BLACK FRIDAY!

Yes, I very much am into the true meaning of Christmas. It is just that I LOVE how the lights the music and pretty sparkly things make me feel. Isn’t that what it is about too? How we feel?

I JUST LOVE CHRISTMAS

Oh Christmas Tree! Oh Christmas Tree around the world

The Capitol Christmas tree in Washington, D.C., is decorated with!cid_001b01ca79ad$942869a0$7901a8c0@Membership 3,000 ornaments that are the handiwork of U.S. schoolchildren. Encircling evergreens in the 'Pathway of Peace' represent the 50 U.S. states.

The world's largest Christmas tree display rises up the slopes of Monte Ingino outside of Gubbio, in Italy's Umbria region. Composed of about 500 lights connected by 40,000 feet of wire, the 'tree' is a modern marvel for an ancient city.!cid_001c01ca79ad$942d4ba0$7901a8c0@Membership

Against a backdrop of tall, shadowy firs, a rainbow trio of Christmas trees lights up the night (location unknown).

I would love to say that I have visited all of these places and taken all of these pictures but……

that would be…..fibbing

It is wonderful to see how Christmas trees are all so different and decorated so differently all around the world.

One thing they all have in common is

No matter where they are standing, the meaning is the same….

my tree….is up….and adorned too….I love it!

Ha Ha Ha (not Ho Ho Ho)

Well, there is good news and bad news about my Christmas decorations.
The good news is that I truly outdid myself this year. The bad news is that I had to take them down after only two days. I had more people come screaming up to my house than ever. Great stories. But two things made me take it down. First, the police advised me that it would cause traffic accidents as they almost wrecked when they drove by. Second, a 55 year old lady grabbed the ladder and almost killed herself putting it against my house and didn't realize it was fake until she climbed to the top (she was not happy). She was one of many people who attempted to do that.  My yard couldn't take it either. I have more than a few tire tracks where people literally drove up my yard.

I think I made him too real this time. But it was fun while it lasted. ;)  Just kidding!

This was not my house, or any house that I actually know.  Someone passed this along to me as a e-mail.  I LOVED IT, something I would do, but haven’t yet.  I will let you know when Huhoney actually does.  Or one of my jokester kids do! hehehe

ps…thanks for all the kind comments on my Thanksgiving post.  It was a fun weekend, so happy I could share with my village friends!
