There is an end to everything...

Well I had my fun, the days are done, the girls are gone.  It seemed like they were here for such a short time when in fact they were here for 3 weeks! The girls swam and swam until they were totally tired of getting in the pool!  I had to work of course so I wasn't able to spend all the time I wanted with my beautiful daughter, but we did have fun together the time that we did share.  I got her hooked on a little reality tv I am afraid to say.  WELL, when it is real hot outside and you don't feel like taking a walk in the evening or bike ride (which she did) you watch tv in the coolness of the family room!  Yes "Big Brother" and a little "Great American Road Trip" is now on the agenda to tivo when she gets home LOLOL.  Just a few pics to share of the last couple of weeks.

summer visit 026

Brooklyn loves animals so on a walk in the evenings we made sure we had apples and carrots for the horses along the route.

summer visit 030

Brooklyn was a little skidish at first to hold her hand out but it didn’t take her long to get over her fear…summer visit 032

there were many horses of different size and color and she made sure that each one got a treat!

summer visit 046

This is a photo I snapped of her with an attitude!  She wasn’t opposed to my taking the picture, I think she just wanted me to get it over with…lol

summer visit 070

This just happened to be a beautiful sunset shot on one of our many walks in the evenings…

summer visit 092

on a walk through the golf course one evening Papa and Brookie hunted the brush for golf balls…

summer visit 100

sure enough Papa found one lodged in a tree!  It has split  in half and was stuck there waiting for someone to spot it and give it to a surprised little girl!

summer visit 112 on a visit to see cousins up North, I tried and tried to get everyone together for a photo…I managed to get these little rascals on the trampoline, Brooklyn (top) Ryan (bottom left) Lauren (bottom center) Kyler (right).

summer visit 113

The oldest of the grandchildren (Madison) loved giving the younger ones rides on the 4-wheeler around the back yard.

summer visit 153

We visited a place called “Heritage Park” across from the Salt Lake zoo.  It is a great place for kids to run around, ride ponies, a train, pet animals and just have fun…

summer visit 154

summer visit 130

Don’t the kids look like they are having fun?

summer visit 117

Another photo op was hurried…..6 out of 7 grandkids all together isn’t too bad!

summer visit 206

Yes! there is still a drive-in!  Right down the road from Mikes there is a drive-in theater!  Camille popped pop corn and fixed treats for everyone.  We had a great time!

summer visit 208

summer visit 211

Papa and I parked right next to the little ones so that they could go back and forth in our car and then on the seats and then in our car and on our laps then back to mom and dad in the van…it was a great night!

summer visit 214

with luggage in tow and packed into the car…

summer visit 218

it was time to say goodbye until next time….

summer visit 219

Papa sped them off to the Las Vegas airport while I cried myself to work…..

Good bye girls….until next time….love and hugs

Where has it gone?

I was just a young girl of 15 at the time. My brother was in Boot Camp in Camp Pendleton in California. He was going to be a Marine. It was a very scary time for everyone. We knew he was going to go to war. My mother cried a lot. I remember getting a letter from my brother Ron, and he asked me if I would please write some Marines? They had seen a picture of me and wanted to write to me. Who me? Why? But my answer was yes. I would write these Marines how ever many there were. One of which was Bob Higgins.
He was a friend of my brothers, so he had to be a nice guy. The letter I still have, among a few others from other Marines. My folks decided that we would go and see my brother after boot camp, before he was shipped out to Viet Nam. Could Bob spend some time with us too? was the question asked. Sure...we would be in CA for a few days, Bob could spend some time with our family, it would give my brother a buddy. So there it began. The "love story".

We picked up my brother and were to meet Bob at a bus stop. Yes, as he got off the bus, he was this tall skinny Marine with a grin from ear to ear. Big ole dimples and so shy! A shy Marine! HA! We had a station wagon. He slipped into the back seat next to me. He just said "hi" and smiled. I was 15! So this was the Marine I was writing. He is OLD! was my thinking. I was about to enter High School. He was nice enough I guess. He actually lived only 30 minutes or so from where we lived in SLC. He even had a couple of sisters, one was only a year older than me. This couldn't be so bad. We had a fun time together (the family and Bob) and the morning we were to leave and go home we went to eat breakfast somewhere (probably Dennys). Of course I got to sit in the booth with my brother and his friend. I adored my brother. He was so handsome and I knew I was his sweetheart. Bob and my brother got up from the table, and went and got a cigar from the check out counter. It didn't matter how old you were, they were Marines! They came back to the table and I will never forget what happened next. With a sweet as pie smile and blushing beet red this Marine (Bob) slide the cigar band from the cigar and handed it to me.
I just looked at him like a silly 15 year old would and thought?????? and he politely told me to hang on to it until he got back from Viet Nam. I remember smiling back at this ... man and blushed myself. I actually put the band on my finger and for years kept it in a safe place. A lot happened in the next 3 years. I was in High School and dated the football jock, and a few others, but always wrote this Marine and many others while they were serving their country. Some of which didn't write back. They didn't make it home either. Their letters I still have tucked away. But one Marine hung in there. He believed in us. I found out later that he told my brother after we left that restaurant that he was going to marry me. Well, on August 2nd 1970 the summer out of high school, I married that Marine,

and 39 years later we are still going strong. Yeah, this is a love story. One I have written many, many poems about.

It hasn't been all roses, maybe that is why I love roses so much. They just seem to symbolize our love and devotion to each other. He never fails to show me his love or give me roses. We had dinner at our favorite restaurant Samauri 21
and enjoyed some chocolate fudge cake that Brooklyn insisted on getting for us. SWEET. Yes, my life is SWEET. We had a good day. The card and roses he gave me (2 dozen red long stemmed roses) was perfect. I usually write something to him. This time I stayed up until 2 am writing. Good thing I didn't have to go to work the next day! It may not be the typical poem but I will share with you because it is Wordful Wednesday.
This is my poetry:

August 2, 2009

In the early morning hours I close my eyes and think back to a time long ago.

A time when we were young and our hearts were tender and so innocent. I think back when we first met, and the silly little girl that I was. I remember seeing someone so shy and a young man so brave and full of courage. I had no idea at the time where my life would take me. Nor did I know where your life would take you.

In the early morning hours I close my eyes and think back to a time long ago.

You said you knew that I as the one; that we were meant to be together. Our hearts were tender and so innocent. I am so happy that you followed your dreams; that you showed me what true love really was. Everything you went through and endured, to come home to me and prove beyond any doubt, that rainbows and dreams do exists, but you have to believe in love.

In the early morning hours I close my eyes and think back to a time long ago.

To a time when you asked me to marry you. Your strong arms would hold me tight and promise me the world. I believed you would make that happen. A time when we were young and our hearts were tender and so innocent. How blessed we were to with stand the test of life and time. Together we conquered, what ever came our way. We endured without end.

In the early morning hours I close my eyes and think back to a time not so long ago.

I looked into your eyes and knew without a shadow of a doubt that I would stand by your side no matter what life had to offer. Our hearts were tender and we knew innocence but forgave it. You showed me the world. You brought me to a place of no return and promised me eternity.

In the early morning hours I close my eyes and think back to today.

A time when we were not so young and our hearts are still tender but wise. All the memories we share, the laughter and tears of all our 39 years. I wouldn’t want it any other way.

As I close my eyes and feel you lying next to me in sleep, I am comforted knowing that when I wake in the morning you will always be there for me.

Thank you for always believing in us.

Forever and always
Your lulu

JUST DIVE IN....

Well, let's see...the "girls" have been visiting for a week now. It has been lots of fun having them around. What have we done? Well let's see...swim in the pool, swim in the pool, and swim in the pool!
It has been REALLY HOT here. Like 109, 110, 113. The pool was even too hot to swim in for a few days so we left it uncovered and it finally cooled down enough to be a little refreshing. Water logged? Yeah, the girls are getting water logged! It is hard for the teenager and 5 year old to be together ALL THE TIME. There is a lot of teasing and a lot of tattle-tailing going on LOL, oh ya know the saying...what goes around comes around...well that is happening in the life of my daughter. Only...I didn't have 2 girls! PHEW and that's a good thing! I have come to the conclusion that YES BOYS are easier to raise. They just go about their business. They do their own thing. Girls are sassy and whinny. LOL, oh it is fun having them around.....

On Friday night we went to our town square. They had "movie under the stars" night. A huge blow up screen (was pretty cool) was put up and people put their lawn chairs out and blankets out all over the lawn to watch a movie. It was free. (Oh yeah, see the "D" on the mountain side, well the reason behind letters on the mountain side in every little town or city is for high schools or colleges. Our "D" stands for Dixie State College. The "U" on the mountain in SLC is for the University of Utah, "W" in SLC on the mountain side is for my alma mater West High School, and so on and so on.) The kids (Kyler was with us) play in the water before the movie, although our girls had enough pooling.
We didn't stay for the whole show, "Astronaut Farmer" because they were bored. You just can't make the happy all the time! lol. But it was an evening out and Natalie and I enjoyed each others company just catching up and chatting like girls do...

The girls and I went to Las Vegas last Saturday. It was overcast and not too bad! I walked and walked and walked. There are a few hotels in that town that try and cater to the kids. You can spend dollar after dollar on games to win stuffed animals.
Well it kept them happy. We had lunch, watched it rain and heard it thunder inside a mall while we ate, saw a lion habitat at the MGM and got some treats at the M&M store. I even splurged and spent $1.56 on some M&M's and a got a cute bag they put it in.
I think I was paying for the bag. My daughter didn't get out so easy. $20 worth of M&M's. I think it was just fun filling up the bags. They do that on purpose so you don't know how much you are buying! We stayed until the lights went on, then took the 2 hour drive home again. It was a fun day.

every conceivable color of M&M there is. I mean EVERY color!

This is the PARIS tower in Las Vegas. It is beautiful at night. You can take a ride up to the top (for a cost of course) and view the whole "strip".The "girls" outside of the Venetian Hotel. I think.

We went to a play at Tuacahn last night. http://www.tuacahn.org/ I was sporting a huge migraine. Yes, it made my vision blurry, and I even got sick (blaaahhhh) but I pulled it off and went to the play because the tickets are non-refundable. It was such a fun performance. Our little Tuacahn is not so little. Pretty famous actually. There is a performing arts school and everything here in this little community. We have lots of entertainers come and do there thing here on this stage and the setting. Well you can't beat the setting. It is incredible. Here are a few pics of the evening. You can't (well they say you can't) take pictures but I sneaked a few in without the flash, and they didn't turn out too well.

Brooklyn on the far left with the "attitude"
The back drop of the outdoor theater and stage. They use the mountain in the back for many of their production...South Pacific was incredible, they had a waterfall come down the mountain and flood the stage....

By the way villagers, I am reading your posts each day....and trying to keep up. Posting myself has been a little slow! But I try to keep up! You are all so great in keeping your posts up!

TIME! Never enough of it!

I never have enough time to do what I want to do! I know that I am blessed to have this job in these days. I shouldn't complain....BUT....I want to complain! COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN. There, I said it. I want to take the summer off! I want to work for the school district so I can take the summer off! I want...I want...I want....

I am sounding like my children

Like my spoiled children when they were little rascals

I am spoiled and shouldn't be stomping my feet right now....

Because I really am blessed......

Boy that felt good!

My daughter from North Carolina will be here tomorrow (today because I am posting on Wednesday) with her 2 beautiful girls. I am so happy! I can't wait to see them. We visited in December remember? The story about the King and Queen and their adventure? Yes those Princesses are coming. And I am going to spoil them. I will have to WORK at this job I AM BLESSED WITH...while they are here for 3 weeks (I have to say it out loud to convince myself) but I will be going home each night to the girls.

This Friday is the 24th of July. In Utah it is a day off. It is called "Pioneer Day". A day of celebration when the Pioneers settled in the Salt Lake Valley. There is a VERY BIG parade that day in Salt Lake. I think I was once told it is the 3rd largest parade in the Nation! http://www.sltrib.com/themix/ci_12868186 So, I will have an extra day off with the girls! I will be taking lots of pictures and of course you all will be very sick and tired of my posts about THE GIRLS THIS AND THE GIRLS THAT AND THEY DID THIS AND THAT AND MY BEAUTIFUL GRANDDAUGHTERS DID THIS AND ARE SO SMART AND AND AND AND. So if you choose to not read my post, I will totally understand because I am journal-ling for posterity! lol.

We visited the "other" grandchildren over the weekend. It was fun to see them since our Alaskan vacation together. Although the drive is 4 hours, it goes by quickly. The "village" they live in is called "ERDA". It means "good earth". So I was told. They have a parade and ERDA DAYS each year. The community puts it together. (totally hokie and red-neck LOL) but it is fun for the kids. Of course our little munchkins
were a part of it. Owen was the driver (the 3 yr. old) If I could figure out the collage or mosaic picture thing it would be so much easier to post the pics. Lauren was the candy thrower and so was Ryan a candy thrower. Below you will see a few of the pics of the parade. You have to understand, this is by no means a huge parade, just a home town little thing. I saw a lot of the old neighbors and visited with old friends. It was fun. It was big enough (30 mins) that the local cycle police closed down a main drag for the parade which went about 1/2 mile! It was hot and windy on Saturday and after the days events we had a fun water fight. Yeah, I played along and got WET. Mike (my son) is an awesome sport, who loves his children to death and got in on the water fun too. We of course let the little ones think they were in control. I was very smart in getting water guns to start the fight with!

Ryan decided that this grasshopper needed a ride to the parade in my car....but I forgot he had the darn thing, now I can't find it....probably still in my car! and will jump on me when I am driving to work some morning!

there were many more fun parade pics but the highlight of the day was the water fight at my sons home. We let the little rascals take control and soak us. Even Huhoney was a good sport. Owen thought he was sneaking up on Papa....hehehe
We ended with Mike and Owen blasting it out...you know who won don't you? What a wonderul Saturday!
And this is my long WINDED WORDLESS WEDNESDAY...not sure when I will be posting again..probably on Monday because I will be sooo busy...but I will be checking in with the villagers at night when all is quiet and everyone is in bed....

looks like my video will not upload! darn!
