HOW MANY DO YOU HAVE?

Phone books that is?  I was outside watering some flowers while Huhoney is away and up the street they came.  The “phone book” delivery people.  Teenage boys in the back of the pick-up, mom was driving. AHHHHHH the dreaded phone books! NOT AGAIN was going through my tiny brain and I started to shake my head and very softly talking under my breath, “I don’t need another phone book”, so…..the teenage boy threw one out onto my drive-way.  I watched as they drove up the street continuing their quest in delivering phone books to the other homes in the neighborhood.  I don’t know about your area, but here, in this little town of St. George we have a lot of phone books.  I have NO IDEA why we do or what purpose they serve other than competition for each other! april 2010 # 2 001 Who uses phone books?  Then I saw the truck driving backwards down the street, the mother climbs out of the truck and came up to me and picks up the phone book and says, “my sons and I are having a little discrepancy on weather or not you really want this phone book, you see I saw you shake your head but my son didn’t so he left you a book.  I just smiled and said….”well is this a worth while bet?  will someone benefit with dinner out or a $5 bill LOL?  The mother said, “well no, we just wanted to settle this so that I can say I was right….” LOL and I said “well in that case, you are both right, I shook my head because I don’t need another book, I already have several but I was not passing up a book if it is more current, even though I rarely use it….”  She laughed.  Then handed me the book.april 2010 # 2 002

I should have handed it back.  It is a good thing we have a special drawer in the kitchen JUST FOR PHONE BOOKS! and a few other things.

What a waste of trees……but then again, it is a source of jobs for people.  I guess a double edge sword you would say.  I use the internet for all my “looking up needs” anymore…how about you?  How many phone books do you have?

We only have one for our area that comes our yearly. It has the Yellow Pages (for businesses adverts)) and White Pages (residential/business phone numbers). I rarely use it but it can be handy if you need to find a tradesman. I recycle mine each year into our collection bin - I guess it becomes garden mulch eventually. If we are in the car and need a number we dial 12456 CallConnect and they put you straight through.

Have a nice day, Linda

We get 2 new ones every year...our local county phone book and the Cincinnati Yellow pages, then we recycle the old ones, but it's true, they aren't used very often!

I have a 'phone book' drawer in my kitchen...but it doesn't look as neat and organized as yours! :))
I, too, have waaaay too many phone books....and don't use them as much as I use to. I use Google!
Love and smiles to you from Jackie

I still use a phone book...but I wish they didn't deliver them so often...You made me smile with this post! And yes, I do believe that most people no longer use phone books...I'm just so old fashioned...Even though I blog...I still prefer to get my information from books :-) Love you, Janine XO

Oh Linda I have been in this very same predicament! We live in a small town and have several phone books???

Every year I go through them and keep only the most recent. Like you, we rarely use them.

It was much easier when I was growing up in Chicago. You got one giant phone book for the whole city. About the size of a dictionary!

I bet that has changed now too!

Love Di ♥

Yes! We get so many phone books delivered too! We get two from our phone service (a giant book of White pages, and a giant book of Yellow pages), then the town delivers a smaller one with both White and Yellow page sections, then businesses get together and make up one of all their addresses and numbers, it's WAY too many! And we use the computer to look everything up too!
It is wasteful.

Love to you,
Eileen
PS ~ LOVE your blog dress!

Hi Linda - How funny! We just got our "new" book, too - my Husband DOES NOT want it! I think some things just don't change very quickly...(Delivery of phone books is one!)
