Everything has a purpose…

I haven’t figured out what the purpose is yet of the doves.  At first I thought … oh isn’t the sound of the doves nice, it is so …so …cooooing and so cooooing……….well now I am not so sure I am a fan of the cooooing, especially when you are in bed, late at night or early in the morning and these lovely……….and I say that with sigh, lovely little doves decide to coo at each other.

They have made a nice little nest across the street in our neighbors eves of their house, I guess they don’t mind their cooing.  But lately…I have gotten a little tired of it.  Am I a bad person?

Just go coo some where else will ya!  I want to sleep in once in a while!

Huhoney actually laughed at me and asked me if I wanted to eat them…he said “don’t you remember when I would go DOVE hunting and bring home DOVES and you would bake them!  WHAT?? I baked these birds and we ate them????  I did not!  I can’t believe I did that……well maybe I can….it must have been in my other life….when I had boxed wine in my fridge…..that had a spout…and I drank it…

so for now….I just shoo them off of my roof and chase them up the street so they land on the neighbors roof and coooooo their little hearts out over there!

And NO…..I am not going to eat them!

I am off for the weekend to visit the “little rascals” feb 2010 misc 014 and watch our sweet Lauren in her first dance recital…this should be fun…. lol have a great weekend everyone!

OK - so don't hate me - but I love the doves..... They have always reminded me of my grandmother's house and now that I own my grandmother's house - they remind me of times past. I've lived places that didn't have doves cooing in the morning and I figured there was something missing in that neighborhood - not enough tress, too much asphalt?? I don't know - but I love the early morning coo-ing of doves.....you can send yours to me :-)

Well Linda, you would not like it here much. We have at least 10 or 12. I actually love having them, but ours don't coo after dark though. I like their mournful sound and love how they silently glide in or all take off in unison. Maybe you should give them another chance! :)

Enjoy those rascals!

Hi Linda, How fun - Lauren first recital! Exciting for her and for you! I had to laugh about the doves. Huhoney better not get his hunting rifle out, though!

PS I saw some headbands just like you knit in a store in Monterey.

You, my dear friend, are HILARIOUS! Love it...My mom wouldn't let me hang bird feeders when she was alive...grew up feeding chickens and cleaning after them during WWII...she hated birds...(laughing). I can understand how you might feel this way if they are preventing you from peaceful rest...hope that the situation rights itself soon...Have a wonderful time at the recital! That's wonderful! See you when you return! Love, Janine XO

The doves are nesting in our neighbors hanging basket, so plenty of cooing here too! But I don't really mind up until now. It's what they leave behind on my patio what annoys me more! I have baked doves before too, a long long time ago when my grandfather hunted them for me. Now I just have to buy them at the supermarket!

Have a great weekend Linda.

This is so funny Linda! A little baked dove and boxed wine, God provides one way or another! I love the Doves. When Katie was little she had always cooed back and forth with one and called it her boyfriend! Those days are long gone for sure. Enjoy those little rascals!
Love Di ♥

Love the post!!! And I smiled at the fact that you didn't remember 'dove shoots'...and the outcome: doves for cooking!
They are lovely birds...and I enjoy their cooing.... I hope that your doves 'settle' down soon...
Enjoy your trip to see the 'li'l rascals'...(what wonderful love you will get and receive)...and enjoy Lauren's recital. (Did I tell you that my granddaughter's name is Lauren?)
Love,
Jackie

THis just makes me laugh because for a few years in a row, we had some that would sit on the deck roof and every morning and every night before dark, they would drive me nuts. One day when Zach was about three, he saw some sitting on the roof of our house. He said "Oma, look whats on your roof". I said yeah, I call them pidgeons and Papa calls them morning doves" and Zach said "I call them birds!"

Hey Linda!! don't blame you a bit for being annoyed. When the crows are around here in spring they drive me nuts, and I am definitely a bird lover!! We have doves, but they are not bothersome at all! And we don't eat ours either!! HA!!

Hope you have enjoyed your grandies and the dance recital! Thank you for your sweet bloggy friendship!!
Hugs!!
Becky

What? How could you kill and eat the symbol of true love and peace? Those doves probably know of your past dove ways and are punishing you with their cooing :)

Oh, Linda, we have those doves too, but their cooing doesn't bother me at all. There's something about it, they sound like they are longing for something, it's sounds so soulful. It's almost like a favorite song playing over and over again. Or plea to Heaven.

And, Lady, you have lots of kids and grandkids, haven't you learned to tune out bothersome sounds????!

You are too funny, Linda!
And although we usually have wine from a bottle, there are many times at parties where someone will bring a box of wine and I like it!! It tastes fine to me.
But I have never eaten a dove in my life! What did it taste like?

Love you, Eileen
